Dentistry was there in ancient times

There are many texts referring to the dentist activities in the ancient times. They date back to times as old as 7000BC. The Indus Valley Civilization which is very old seems to have practiced this profession.

There were dental holes caused by dental drills, found in the teeth of ancient people. The Sumerian text dating back to 5000 BC describes the ailments of dental caries caused by tooth worms.

India, China, Egypt and other eastern countries were found to have practiced this activity in the past. Though dentistry in itself was not a profession at that time, it was done some times by barbers and sometimes by individuals. The tools they used varied and evolved from pelican to the forceps of the modern times.

Now practicing dentists need to register according to 1921 dentists act. It also requires qualification like any other profession. Read the full post...
