Memory Card Prices in India (SD, SDHC, MicroSD, xD, SDXC, CF) (Sandisk, Transcend, Kingston, Olympus)



The prices of memory cards in Indian electronic stores depend on types (SD, SDHC, microSD, minimicro SD, xD, SDXC, CF types) and brands (Sandisk, Transcend, Kingston, Olympus). The capacities range from 1GB to 32GB depending on the type of card. Their prices range from minimum 200 rupees to maximum 5000 rupees. Also differ in compatibility with a digital electronic device.

There are various types of memory cards available in the Indian electronic stores today for meeting the digital memory/storage requirements of most modern electronic devices. It can be for your mp3 player, apple ipod (nano), apple iphone, many mobile phones, digital still and video cameras, portable digital video players etc. Some of these devices already come with good amount of internal storage. However many leave it to the user to supplement memory with additional slots on the device to insert the memory card of the capacity of their choice.

This results in the need to understand the various memory card types mainly because some devices’ expansion slots are not compatible with all types of memory cards. Various memory card types are mainly based on Secure Digital (SD cards) and differ in their storage capacity, physical size, connectivity etc. which make all the difference with respect to their compatibility with an electronic device. The are SD (low capacity from 1GB to 8GB in the current market), SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity from 4GB to 32GB with prospects of 64GB in the future), MicroSD (physically smaller than SD/SDHC but in all capacities), xD (just a similar card by Olympux) SDXC (prospect card type for very high capacities from 64GB onwards in the future) and Compact Flash (CF). All of these are currently based on Flash digital memory type.
